Went to the doctor today. Set up appointments for March 9th which will be cycle 2 chemo day.

He went over a few things like test results and what to expect next week and for cycle 2.

Not much has changed, which is good as so far. cycle 1 chemo is going as it should now.

First day at home. She tried to rest today and take it easy. Wasn't overly easy as she is still retaining water from the kidneys backing up last week.

The best part is that she is feeling pretty ok for the most part though. so except for being weak and now in a lower immune system time, she is doing pretty well.

Getting to go home day!!!

Was a very long day. They started the process about 7am, but it took several hours to get all the paperwork, tests, drugs, etc all processed and figured out before she finally got to go home to her own comfy surroundings.

Had great visitors again today and not feeling as great as the day before but still ok. They are watching numbers and the counts have gone down and a possible release tomorrow might not happen. We have to wait and see how things come back tomorrow morning.

Today my mom got to see the grandkids at the hospital. A much needed visit by them. This will be the last time she will get to see them for awhile as well. she looked much better today as the drugs are finally working and she is not retaining as much water as she had the previous days.  Today they are still discussing when she will get to go home, but they want to see how the numbers are first. but overall she looked much better today.

the view was better today :)

so today they are starting chemo finally. she is still retaining a lot of fluid and will eventually hopefully pass all that, but they wanted to get her started on the chemo to get the drugs to start to fight the tumor.

They hooked her up about 12 noon and the first 1.25 hours were good. she slept.
but then she woke up very uncomfortable and had trouble breathing, so they had to have her sit up and getting a breathing mask to help her catch her breath.
then after about 45 minutes she was able to get back into bed and they gave her some drugs to help her sleep :)
then time for more chemo.

and a few more tests. Kidney doctor should be by eventually to see how things are going with the fluid.  she had an xray and they are monitoring the liquid she is retaining. they are hoping the chemo drugs will help fight the tumor and once the tumor starts to shrink her kidneys will work faster to flush everything out.

here are a few more photos from the day of chemo....

I just talked with her this morning and she still doesnt know much. They came in several times last night so she had interrupted sleep.

Saw the doctor and also a kidney doctor and they are planning to still pump fluids all day and see if they can flush the kidneys and get things moving in a better direction. her numbers do look better today then yesterday and they hope to do chemo by the end of the week. She is still in PCU until and hopes to be moved to the oncology unit tonight.

and wouldnt you know her phone broke today! so now my dad has to deal with that and try to get her a new one so she can have calls and call people!

She had lots of visitors today that made the day go by much quickly and made sitting in the hospital a smidge better :)

My dad took my mom to have Chemo today at the Group Health clinic. It started with an hour long orientation teaching all about chemo and what to expect. That went well and the nurse was fabulous. Once they start Chemo it will be about 6 hours of treatment being monitored by the nurses since this is her first time having it done.

Then they took her blood counts.

They started Chemo. About 45 minutes in, they stopped Chemo because her calcium level came back high. They decided to give her liquids to see if they could flush her system and bring the levels down.

Today we went to the oncologist again for full diagnosis.

First the bone marrow came back clean. That is really good news. It's totally clean with all working cells. Her bone marrow is even working better for her age so he said that was good. Her heart scan was good. She can do full chemo. The brain scan came back good and clean. Nothing in brain. There is no cancer in her bones.

The neck ct found something on her right side of her thyroid. At this point it could be lymphoma or Thyroid cancer or nothing. She will have a biopsy this week to find out. Treatment is the same. Unless it's thyroid cancer then it will need to be removed. But chemo is the same. However it could also be benign and unrelated.

The PET scan scans the entire body and did find lymphoma in her left breast in one of the mammary glands.
Because the mass is on her right side and it's her left breast... It's stage three lymphoma.

So far treatment is the same though because her main mass is large she would need several cycles anyway.
Sooooo she starts chemo on Monday the 13th. She will need to do 6-8 cycles. Each cycle is 21 days she receives the chemo drugs one day 1. And then when all the chemo is done she will do radiation to further shrink the big tumer. No surgery.

The doctor says everything is very treatable and she should live 10+ years. When this is all said done it should all be gone and she goes on to live a normal life.
